Clinical Psychologist Disability Scholarships

We would like to invite applications for the post of Clinical Psychologist. This position will be fixed term until December 2012 and is a full-time post.

The successful candidate will work in the OASIS Prison In-reach team, a new service for prisoners at high risk of developing psychosis. The aim of the project is to roll-out an early detection and early intervention service in Her Majesty's Prison Brixton.

The new clinical team will work closely with the OASIS community team, with the in-reach psychiatric mental health and within the existing time structure of the prison. Her Majesty's Prison Brixton is a category B local prison for male prisoners aged 21 or over who are on remand (going to trial) or sentenced to less than two years. The prison has an average daily population of 798 and receives on average 20 new receptions each day, about 50% are resident in SLaM.

Prisoners resident in SLaM aged 21-35 will be screened during their first week induction to prison using the screening instrument developed in our previous study.

Prisoners who meet criteria for the at risk mental state will be provided with a well-established intervention package which is routinely used in the OASIS service in the community. Treatment will start in prison and the same clinician will continue seeing the prisoner when they are released into the community. Clients will be followed up for a period of 2 years after the initial assessment.

The successful candidate will also be encouraged to develop their own research interests.

Starting salary £40,313 pa (inclusive of £2,323 pa London Allowance).
